Further information on Exam Grading and Leaver’s Arrangements
20th April 2021
RE: Further information on Exam Grading and Leaver’s Arrangements – Year 11
I am pleased to be able to write to you with further information about the exam grading arrangements for your child. You will have already seen from the Principal’s letter on 31st March that:
- Most students will not be doing formal exams. Instead, teachers will gather evidence over the coming weeks along with prior evidence that students have already produced through classwork, mock exams and homework.
- Students will only be assessed on topics and skills that they have been taught. They will not be assessed on anything they have not covered, this includes where they have been affected by lockdown circumstances.
- Teachers will keep students informed about what and when assessments will be and will help them to prepare for these assessments.
- All grades will be submitted to the exam boards and maybe subject to change.
- NEW – In exceptional circumstances, where students are missing evidence, require further evidence or have extenuating needs, we will be providing an additional period of assessment after half term. If this applies to your child, we will write to you in advance and by Friday 28th May at the latest.
You will also have already seen the information released by the Joint Council For Qualifications (JCQ) sent by the Principal but I have included the link again for your reference:
As you know, students were informed of the arrangements before Easter and I can now confirm that the date for our virtual Parent Information Evening is Monday 26th April 2021 at 6:30pm via MSTeams. A link is included below:

The aim of the evening is to provide you with further details and the opportunity to ask any questions. Please email any questions in advance to SN@bodmincollege.co.uk. Please submit your questions by 12 noon on Monday 26th April.
In accordance with JCQ guidance, a copy of our Summer 2021 Exam Grading Centre Policy will be available from 30th April on our website along with access to each subject’s assessment record arrangements. A link will be sent to you in the parent bulletin.
Leavers’ and Celebration Arrangements
I appreciate that many of you are keen to make arrangements for later in the summer term when exam grading has been completed. For most Year 11 students, their last full-time compulsory day of Year 11 will be Wednesday 26th May 2021.
However, where students are missing evidence, require further evidence or have extenuating needs, they may be required to attend on a part-time basis until Friday 18th June. If this applies to your child, we will write to you in advance and inform you by Friday 28th May at the latest.
In addition we will also be providing an optional Post16 transition programme during the last 2 weeks of June, details of which will follow shortly.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 we are not able to offer our traditional end of Year 11 Prom in the same way as previous years and are mindful that many families are facing additional financial pressures, however we do want to offer our students some form of celebration event. We are currently consulting with students and monitoring government guidance to finalise what these celebrations might look like and will write to you with more information very shortly. In the meantime, we have reserved two dates:
- Wednesday 26th May
- Friday 9th July
As soon as I have the results of the student survey and have finalised arrangements, I will be in touch.
