New Year 7 - Start of Term Arrangements Principal’s Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

As your child nears the last few days of their Primary School education and we head into the summer holidays, you will by now have received all the information that you need to prepare for an exciting start to Bodmin College. I write to provide you with a final summary and reminder of important key dates and information ahead of the summer holidays.

Start of the New Academic Year

Please note that for 2022-23, we are continuing to operate a slightly staggered end to the school day with Years 7 & 8 finishing at the slightly earlier time of 3:20pm in order to reduce traffic congestion in the local area. We encourage walking/cycling and respectfully ask parents to consider residents and recommend using parking in Bodmin Town Car Parks or Bodmin Leisure Centre to ease traffic around the college site.

In preparation for the new school term, please click here for uniform, equipment and PE kit guidance. Please ensure that your child has all the necessary clothing, stationery and equipment ready to learn at the start of term. This must include a school bag and a weatherproof coat. Please note that skirts and shorts should be tailored and ¾ thigh length. Lycra skirts, leggings, tracksuit bottoms and denim are not permitted.

This information along with the Family Calendar is also available on the college website www.bodmincollege.co.uk (please note the website may be closed for essential upgrades at certain points during the break).

Please be aware that the Department for Education has released updated guidance for schools on student attendance. Amendments to the 2006 Regulations remove any reference to family holidays, extended leave and the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments also make it very clear that Headteachers may not grant leave of absence (holiday) during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please note that under the revised guidance, unauthorised absence may also be subject to a Fixed Penalty Notice. We are currently revising our Attendance Policy and will write again in September with further information, however, I felt it fair to outline these changes to you in advance of the new academic year and being mindful of the fact that families often use the summer months to plan their family holidays.

Please also note that from September we will be operating an 'Off and Away All Day' policy for mobile phones. Full details of this have been sent separately and are also available on our website.

Summer Holiday Activities and Support

With the 6 week summer break, please find below a reminder of the Time2Move Holiday Programme information sent in last week's parent bulletin. The programme offers fun physical activities, games and wider activities plus a free meal for every child. All children are welcome to attend, and it is completely FREE for children that are eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals. Activities can be booked at: www.activecornwall.org/T2MHolidayProgramme

If you are a parent or guardian of a child eligible for benefits related free school meals you can access your unique code at: www.cornwall.gov.uk/time2move

For any questions regarding the Time2Move Holiday Programme please email Time2Move.HolidayProgramme@cornwall.gov.uk or phone 01872 233335.

Furthermore, Cornwall Council has received funding from the Government's Household Support Fund to help families with the increased cost of living. The money will support households in the most need against rising living costs, including energy, food and water bills. Families with a child or children in Reception to Year 11 who are eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals can claim a cash payment of £80 per child by completing the application form at Cost of living support payments - Cornwall Council.

Finally, reception will be closing for the summer at 2pm tomorrow 22nd July 2022 with some limited opening on the results days.

May I take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support during this academic year and wish you all an enjoyable and safe summer.

Yours sincerely

E Seward-Adams
