Careers

At Bodmin College we are dedicated to helping every student find their best next step.

Annual Careers Plan

Our Careers Plan is designed to deliver the Gatsby Benchmarks, which is the framework for good career guidance created to support schools and colleges to provide the best possible careers education, information, advice, and guidance. We understand that the more Gatsby benchmarks a school meets, the more likely young people are to be in a sustained destination post-16. An overview of our Careers Programme, and how it links to the national and local careers context, is provided.

Our Careers Plan ensure that we have in place a scheme of learning which is underpinned by inspirational encounters and activities which actively challenge stereotypes and raise aspirations.

Monitoring and Assessing Progress

We track our progress against the Gatsby benchmarks using the Compass tool provided by the CEC. Our Careers Leader will complete a Compass evaluation assessment with the Enterprise Co-ordinator and CELT Careers Lead on a termly basis.

The CELT Careers Lead is also provided by the CEC with a data dashboard which tracks completion of the Gatsby Benchmarks across all CELT schools. This data is included in report to the CELT Board, Executive Leadership Team and Headteachers.

Compliance with Provider Access Legislation

Secondary schools must publish a policy statement to comply with section 42B of the Education Act 1997, known as the 'provider access legislation'. This statement must set out the circumstances in which they will give providers of technical education and apprenticeships access to year 8 to 13 pupils, as applicable.

Involving Parents

We aim to involve parents as fully as possible in their child's careers education. Parents are always welcome to discuss their child's career options with our Careers Leader or a teacher. Parents are also encouraged to make use of the Talking Futures toolkit which supports parents to have informed and constructive conversations with their child about their future options.
